Who we are:

Brookhaven Conservancy, Inc. was formed to protect, preserve, and maintain land primarily in the heavily populated area just north of Atlanta, Georgia, called Brookhaven. The Brookhaven area has commercial and industrial corridors, but is primarily residential. The residential neighborhoods in this area tend to be vulnerable to encroachment from commercial interests as well as residential infill and redevelopment. In addition, a number of creeks run through the area, producing environmentally sensitive flood plains which host wildlife and act as wildlife corridors through a developed area.

In the spring of 2011, a local soccer organization entered into a contract to purchase 12 acres of residential property in the Brookhaven area under the condition that they could secure a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP) to develop it as a private soccer complex. Neighborhood activists organized a group called “Stop Concorde” to fight this proposal and maintain the property’s status for ecological, social, and safety reasons. Though they were ultimately successful in September 2011, they decided it was important to continue to work proactively to protect undeveloped and underdeveloped land in the area that has very little of it.

Our Main Area of Interest:

Brookhaven is east of Sandy Springs and Buckhead, south and west of Chamblee, north of Buford Highway and south of the community of Lynwood Park. The proposed city of Brookhaven extends south to I-85, including the Buford Highway community and Lenox Park. Brookhaven is located at 33°52′47″N 84°21′6″W (33.879722, -84.351667).

The definition of what area “Brookhaven” covers is the following:

▪ Historic Brookhaven, a core group of neighborhoods
around the Capital City Country Club

▪ Historic Brookhaven plus the stretch of Peachtree Road
in between Kendrick Drive and Club Drive

▪ Boundaries of the proposed new city of Brookhaven/Ashford
